Steel-fiber concrete: performance and design limits

Dramix steel fibers can contribute to post-crack performance. Capacity, reinforcement substitution and site savings require project-specific verification.

Editorial update:

A steel-fiber system, not a synthetic fiber

Dramix is Bekaert's steel-fiber product family. It should not be presented as the same product as Macrotwist synthetic macrofibers or Macromic synthetic microfibers. Steel fibers can bridge cracks and contribute to post-crack behavior, depending on fiber geometry, dosage, concrete matrix and distribution. A product name alone does not establish the load capacity of a floor.

Design and construction checks

Loads, slab thickness, support conditions, joint details and residual performance must be checked with an applicable design method and suitable test data. Mesh substitution requires the responsible engineer's approval; local or detail reinforcement may still be needed. Laser screed use depends on the floor layout and construction method, not simply on adding fibers. Mixing, finishing, curing and quality control remain necessary; cost savings are project-specific.

References and archive provenance

These manufacturer references explain general category distinctions. Their dosages, test results and certifications must not be transferred to Macrotwist, Macromic or Macrosteel. The original archive link is retained for provenance, not as validation of its old claims.
