Editorial update:
Mesh is not steel fiber
Welded wire mesh consists of steel wires arranged and joined in a regular grid. It is conventional reinforcement, not a fiber mixed throughout fresh concrete. Steel grade, wire diameter, spacing, weld properties and product documentation must match the applicable specification. The archive's single steel-grade description should not be treated as a universal current product requirement.
Selection and placement
Mesh is not mandatory for every ground slab, and fibers are not an automatic substitute for mesh. The responsible engineer selects reinforcement from loads, support, crack-width limits and applicable design rules. Cover, laps, supports and position during placement are essential. Floors, retaining walls and tunnel elements have different requirements; a product's general use list cannot establish its load capacity.
